As part of Purpose Inc’s poker tourney at PubCon Vegas 2009, we’re supposed to highlight a charity of our choice. I’ve decided to do something a little different. Instead of picking one main charity, I want to highlight the ability to give to any number of local teachers and students.
One of the easiest and best ways to find and give money to local teachers and students is through DonorsChoose.org. You can browse project requests and give any amount to the ones that interest you the most. Once a project reaches its funding goal, they deliver the materials to the school.
You’ll get photos of the project you’re supporting, a thank-you letter from the teacher, and a cost report showing how each dollar was spent. If you give over $100, you’ll also receive hand-written thank-you letters from the students.
At DonorsChoose.org, you can give as little as $1 and get the same level of choice, transparency, and feedback that is traditionally reserved for someone who gives millions.
