How Diet Soft Drinks Keep You Hooked

By Jon Henshaw

For many, diet soft drinks are great, because they don't have any calories and taste okay, I suppose -- assuming you like the taste of bubbly chemicals. While those chemicals may be the source of your unexplainable memory loss, it's not the cause of why you keep drinking them. The culprit? Caffeine.

The Diet Blog recently posted the top 10 most caffeinated diet drinks. The list included:

  1. Diet Pepsi Max -- Per 12oz can : 69mg caffeine
  2. Diet Sundrop -- Per 12oz can: 69mg caffeine
  3. Diet Mountain Dew -- Per 12oz can: 55mg caffeine
  4. Pepsi ONE -- Per 12oz can: 54mg caffeine
  5. Diet Cheerwine -- Per 12oz can: 48.1mg caffeine
  6. Diet RC Cola -- Per 12oz can: 47.3mg caffeine
  7. TaB -- Per 12oz can: 46.5mg caffeine
  8. Diet Coke -- Per 12oz can: 46.5mg caffeine
  9. Diet Sunkist Orange Soda -- Per 12oz can: 41.5mg caffeine
  10. Diet Dr Pepper -- Per 12oz can: 41mg caffeine

The drinks that surprised me the most were Diet Sundrip, Diet Cheerwine and Diet Sunkist. I would have never of thought that those fruit flavored drinks would be caffeinated. You might be asking, what about Mountain Dew? Well, I don't count Mountain Dew as a fruit. I see it more as some sort of candy-urine hybrid.
