TV in Book Form
By
I've thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the Harry Potter books. Although the books are technically for children, the substance of the books has increasingly become older and -darker- more complex.
The Harry Potter series are very easy to read and J.K. Rowling has a knack for ending each chapter in way that makes you want to continue reading.
Although the reading isn't challenging -- at least for adults -- it's very engaging. I'm able to relive some of the challenges of what is was like when I was younger and I enjoy how she weaves hard realities into the make believe world of the enchanted.
I have several books that are awaiting my attention. Of particular interest is a book by David Hume entitled "A Treatise of Human Nature." Unlike Harry Potter, this modern philosophical text will demand my attention and will involve some deep thought and self reflection. However, for the same reason I relish watching mindless television, I'm enjoying the escape that Harry Potter provides. It's like TV, only better.
